Bills QB Josh Allen – Best In The NFL?

September 11, 2022

Despite the two interceptions from Bills quarterback Josh Allen, what we witnessed on Thursday night against the reigning Super Bowl champion LA Rams, was nothing short of greatness. This begs the question, is Allen the best quarterback in the NFL?

I’ll be the first to admit I was not sure of Josh Allen as the seventh pick of the Buffalo Bills in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Wyoming. I wasn’t necessarily against the pick, just unsure of the pick. I live in the Boise area and watched the Josh Allen led Wyoming Cowboys upset our local 13th-ranked and undefeated Boise State in 2016. I knew he had the physical tools, but what I didn’t initially know was the heart of Josh Allen.

It was Allen’s second career start against the Minnesota Vikings, and we all remember the hurdle over Anthony Barr, but it was the ten yard rush for six that convinced me, that Allen was the guy. I still remember seeing that play and Allen diving and stretching out for the pylon. I saw something from him in that moment and really, throughout that Vikings game. I saw heart and drive. A determination to win at all costs, no matter what was needed.

That mentality was on full display Thursday night, embarrassing Nick Scott to the ground. When Allen was asked about it, “I play hard. I want to win games, no matter how I can do it. That’s just, I guess, an example of what I’m willing to do to win a game…”

No question Allen is a physical specimen, Von Miller referred to him as a “creature”. With each game, the superlatives seem to come more and more. It’s all well-earned and accurate too. Allen is doing things that commentators, coaches, and players are saying, how do you stop this guy, there isn’t anything he can’t do. His combination of speed, power, accuracy, and strength is unmatched in the league but we’re starting to see the mental part of the game is on par with the Brady’s and Rodgers of the game. Even my colleagues here at Stadium Rant agree.

Bills Quarterback Josh Allen Owns Some Impressive Stats

Let’s look at some of the numbers throughout Allen’s career to date. I’m going to start with the most recent. Check this out.

Here’s a few more.

  • Only quarterback in NFL history to throw more than 4,000 yards and rush for over 750 yards in a season.
  • Only quarterback in NFL history with more than 4,000 yards passing, 30 touchdowns, and eight rushing touchdowns.
  • First quarterback in NFL history to throw 100 touchdowns and 30 rushing touchdowns in his first four years.
  • Josh Allen totaled 135 touchdowns in his first four years. Only Dan Marino totaled more (144).
  • One of only two quarterbacks (Steve Young) in NFL history to pass for 35+ touchdowns and rush for 5+ touchdowns in multiple seasons. Steve Young did twice, all but guarantee Allen will become the ONLY quarterback to accomplish this feat in three seasons.
  • Josh Allen’s passer rating of 106.6 in post-season play is the best in NFL history.

I’ve had many arguments with my peers, friends, family, colleagues and random people on social media regularly defending Josh Allen, but I’ve been somewhat reserved in proclaiming him as the absolute best quarterback in the NFL. That ends here, with this article. I will tell anyone who will listen and anyone who won’t listen, that there is no doubt Josh Allen is the undisputed best quarterback in the NFL today.

So, I will leave you with this last little question, not directed at Bills Mafia or other fan bases but Jalen Ramsey. Do you still think Josh Allen is trash? You’ve never beaten him Jalen, just saying.
